My fiancé hid a massive commercial loan debt until the wedding invitations were mailed

We are supposed to get married in three months. We decided early on to keep our personal bank accounts separate but to create a joint account for household expenses after the wedding. I’ve always known him to be a bit casual with his credit cards, but he always assured me his finances were completely fine and that he had a solid credit score.

Yesterday, we went to a mortgage specialist to get a pre-approval rate for buying our first home. The agent pulled our full credit profiles, and my heart completely stopped.

My fiancé has an active, hidden $28,000 personal consolidation loan that he took out two years ago to cover his past retail debts, and he has missed the last three payments. Our mortgage pre-approval was instantly rejected because of his score.

He didn't tell me about this during our entire engagement. When we got to the car, he broke down crying and said he was too ashamed to admit he was struggling, and he hoped he could pay it off before we applied for a house.

The wedding invitations went out last week. My parents have already paid the non-refundable venue deposits. I love him, but the fact that he looked me in the eye for two years and hid a massive financial crisis makes me feel like I don't even know who he is.
